she comes home!

What an experience adopting has been! We began our process back in April when we wanted to foster to adopt which meant getting potentially younger children who have a high chance of becoming candidates for adoption. Other CAS agencies do this, but we were later told Ottawa CAS does not. Then not long after we were told YES, they are implementing this type of program. So after waiting and waiting (until July) we got to go to the information session and get the paperwork started. It was fairly straight forward because we had done so much home study, paperwork stuff with fostering. We were told that to get a baby under 2 we would have to wait possibly years. We were fine with that because we had experienced having an older child in our home and we knew that a baby younger than Liam and Aidan was a must.

In September we get a call from our social worker telling us the paperwork is all in order and then to my total shock, it looked like we had a match! I tell you I think I almost passed out. It was a case of parents who were expecting at the end of September but had decided to give the baby girl up for adoption knowing that it was the best thing for her. They did have specifics they wanted to have in the adoptive parents and Glen and I were the perfect fit. So after asking all the important questions we said we are definitely in!

It wasn't long after that when things began to get complicated. We had asked the social worker to contact the mother with a few questions and there was no response. Every day was so long, waiting to get a phone call from the social worker saying everything is okay. However, that call did not come. So Glen and I held our breath for two solid weeks, knowing that the pregnancy would only go two weeks over the due date. We were so conflicted because the birth parents were not returing the calls which lead us to believe they had changed their minds. So finally the two weeks came to an end and it was the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Still no call. We were so upset, I was devistated. Then miracle of miracles, Tuesday morning Glen calls me at work to say we can pick up our baby Wednesday morning. I was stunned. The birth mother had gone into labour on Saturday having Priya in the afternoon weighing 8 pounds 15 oz. Because it was the weekend, they left a message with the social worker and because it was a LONG weekend, she didn't get the message til Tuesday!!!! The reason the birth parents hadn't returned the calls was because the social worker had copied the wrong number and so they never got the messages. What a mix up, Glen and I feel so blessed that it has all turned out so wonderfully.

We hadn't told anyone our news because we weren't sure what was going on, and we decided we wouldn't make the calls until we had our amazing daughter in our arms. The process was so incredibly short and aside from the hiccup at the very end, we couldn't be happier. Priya has smiled since we first met and has the most wonderful personality. She completes our family.
